The Superintendent of Public Instruction serves as secretary of the State Board of Education. http://education.ohio.gov/About/About-the-Superintendent/Paolo-DeMaria-Superintendent-of-Public-Instruction

The chair of the Ohio House Education Committee, Rep. Andrew Brenner, and chair of the Ohio Senate Education Committee, Sen. Peggy Lehner, serve as non-voting ex officio members.

State Board of Education meetings generally occur on the second Monday and Tuesday of each month- November’s meeting will take place on the 14th and 15th.

Ohio Sunshine Laws require that these meetings be open to the public, except executive session. Members of the public have opportunities to address the Board during the Public Participation portion of the time schedule.

Please attend- especially on Tuesday, Nov. 15th, when school superintendents will voice these concerns: *the negative graduation point system
*the over-emphasis on high-stakes testing
*the reliability problems with Ohio’s Report Card System
